Florida falls at Missouri, Alabama rolls, and Chiefs-Raiders takes center stage
Three of the road teams in our Friday viewing guide came home with wins. Florida came home with a very different conversation. Here is the Saturday catch-up, followed by the NFL matchups worth making room for on Sunday and Monday.
College results below are final from October 3. Rankings refer to the AP poll entering those games. NFL kickoff times are Eastern, with U.S. TV listings checked October 4. This is a recap and viewing guide, not a live scoreboard.
Missouri stops Florida's climb
No. 25 Missouri 45, No. 8 Florida 17. A week after beating Ole Miss 52-28, Florida lost by four touchdowns in Columbia. Missouri earned its first victory over a top-10 opponent since 2013, according to the Associated Press's Saturday roundup.
That is the result I would start with if you missed Saturday. Florida's previous win still matters, but this makes it much harder to treat that performance as a reliable weekly expectation. Missouri deserves the attention for what it did, too.
Alabama makes the road test look comfortable
No. 7 Alabama 56, No. 16 Mississippi State 23. Alabama reached 5-0 behind four total touchdowns from Keelon Russell. The defense forced four turnovers that produced 21 points, and the Tide pulled away from a 28-17 halftime lead. Those details come from Alabama's official recap.
The takeaway for me is the combination: an offense that kept scoring and a defense that created extra chances. The next appointment is already worth saving: Georgia at Alabama, Saturday, October 10, 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC, as listed in that same recap. After a win like this, that is an easy game to circle.
Ohio State and Miami finish the job away from home
Ohio State 31, Iowa 14; Miami 41, Clemson 13. Both finals appear in PFF's Week 5 results roundup. If you followed our Friday preview, those close out the other two road tests on the short list.
There is a useful viewing lesson in those results: a compelling matchup does not have to produce a close finish. Saturday gave us clearer answers about those individual games, even if it left fewer reasons to stay glued to the closing minutes.
NFL Sunday: make room for Chiefs-Raiders
Kansas City at Las Vegas is my main Sunday pick. Both teams enter 3-0, giving this AFC West meeting an immediate reason to watch. The NFL's Week 4 guide confirms the records and the following kickoff and network listings:
- Sunday, October 4, 1:00 p.m., FOX: Los Angeles Rams at Philadelphia Eagles.
- Sunday, October 4, 1:00 p.m., CBS: New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills.
- Sunday, October 4, 4:25 p.m., CBS: Kansas City Chiefs at Las Vegas Raiders.
- Sunday, October 4, 8:20 p.m., NBC: Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers.
- Monday, October 5, 8:15 p.m., ESPN: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints.
I would start with Rams-Eagles, keep an eye on Patriots-Bills, and reserve the late afternoon for Kansas City-Las Vegas. CBS and FOX afternoon coverage varies by market, so check your local listing before settling on a game.
Sunday's London game, Colts-Commanders, was scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Eastern on NFL Network. For its current status and the rest of the day's action, use the NFL scoreboard.
Keep next weekend in view
Start with Georgia-Alabama on the college side, then add the teams you follow in My Season. The games and TV page has the wider slate, and the PDF and calendar guide explains how to take your schedule with you.
